Intel to Release CPU Avoton Processor

Intel is known to develop CPU solutions for different types of systems, including home-based compact platforms, as well as corporate server systems. Not so long ago the company announced the decision to introduce its new solution for micro-servers, codenamed Bordenville, which is based on Centerton CPU. A new platform is going to provide good performance characteristics in combination with multifarious facilities. Still, Intel decided to move on and improve the platform for this segment by a more efficient product. Under the preliminary data, the company is going to develop another platform, codenamed Edisonville, based on Avoton processor.
According to the forecasts, Intel Avoton will be able to demonstrate a better performance per watt, as compared with Centerton or Haswell CPUs. Avoton will be notable for the integration of USB, SATA and GbE facilities; thus, the platform will accommodate a couple of SATA III ports, two SATA II ports, four USB 2.0, and four gigabit Ethernet ports.
Similar to Centerton processor, Avoton will be equipped with PCI-e 2.0 x16 bus and two-channel DDR3 memory controller. It should be noted that the implemented controller will support as DDR3-1600 MHz, so DDR3L 1600 MHz memory. Input-output interface characterizes by the availability of SPI, LPC, UART, and SMBus.
CPU Avoton will consist of 2-8 cores developed under Silvermont architecture (22 nm process). This architecture is thought to support computations with sequence alteration; this is called to enhance CPU performance. The other integrated facility is frequency boosting option, allowing for the increase of core operational frequencies.
It is estimated that Avoton will operate at 2.4 GHz nominal frequency with the possibility of increase up to 2.7 GHz in Turbo mode. Finally, the level of power consumption will fluctuate within the boundaries of 5W-20W, depending on the CPU model.
